Herbie is our little white Peugeot Partner van that we bought back in September. He has been undergoing some major renovations to be turned into our mobile community hub and Cof-free shop.

We came up with the idea for Herbie when we recognised the need for mobile and accessible services across Hull and the East Riding. Due to a lot of the area being quite rural, many people become socially isolated as it is hard for them to travel to regular support services.

A mobile, visible and approachable space is needed to improve our service and inspire cohesion among the community.

We truly believe that the homeless and wider communities will benefit hugely from this project. With Herbie, we have the opportunity to work with those affected or threatened by homelessness across the whole of the region. Meanwhile, we can begin to open up much-needed discussions about issues surrounding homelessness, social responsibility, inclusion and diversity.

Cof-free, on the other hand, allows us to be sustainable. To pay for the running of the hub, we will be serving great tasting, freshly ground bean to cup coffee at events, festivals and fairs. After all, putting the kettle on is a brilliant way to break the ice when it comes to educating people about the realities of homelessness.
