Helping People to Live Independently

Since December 2017, we’ve transitioned 22 beneficiaries back into independent living around Hull. As we move forward into 2018, we want to keep this number rising until we’ve helped more people than ever before.

Independent living is all about supporting people in getting their lives back, and continuing to help them maintain this independence as they go on with their new lives.

On 19 January, the amazing staff from Hudgell Solicitors and some former and current beneficiaries joined us for one of our big move-in projects. This was to help a young couple to settle into independent living after a few years of sofa-surfing, temporary accommodation and a real battle to survive. We moved them in just before Christmas, returning to finish the job and make sure their home felt like just that – a real home.

As they’re expecting their first child soon, we wanted to guarantee that they had a safe, stable and cosy environment to make their fresh start and welcome baby into the world. Preventing homelessness and raising aspirations is incredibly important, supplying people with the resources needed to avoid further crisis and giving youngsters the opportunity to avoid homelessness completely. We will continue to support this family going forward, which applies to everyone we work with here at HHCP.

We want to extend a big thank you to everyone who sent in furniture for the couple, and to Crown Paints Hull for donating plenty of paint.
