Helping a Family Move into their Very First Home

Thanks to all your amazing donations and the assistance of a very special little volunteer, this month we were able to help move a family into independent living for the very first time!

Mum has spent her whole life since childhood living in supported accommodation, and since her son was born four years ago he had always known the same. Though he was excited to move into his first home, he cried when they left the shelter they’d lived in as he loves the staff like family.

As this was a huge and emotional move for the family, we wanted to make sure their transition into independent living was as painless and positive as possible. This way we could help give them the best start to their new life – especially with the birth of baby number two looming in a few months’ time. As always, we will be continuing to support them all long-term for as long as we are needed.

The team at HHCP helped move them in and assisted with decorating the property to make the house a real home. With the help of little Lillie, our youngest volunteer, we set to work on giving the son his own bedroom – space-themed, of course.

We first met Lillie last year, when we found out her Christmas wish was to help out Hull’s homeless people instead of receiving presents for herself. Lillie has made a huge difference already to so many people, and when we told her about this project she couldn’t wait to get stuck in. She took over organising and decorating the bedroom, even donating her own bed and buying the space-themed things needed at the request of our special little client. He was super excited to spend his first night in his room when it had been covered in glow-in-the-dark stars and a light-up solar system!

Thank you all again for your donations and patience this month, and a big shout-out to all our volunteers who helped us pull off this project and make another life-changing difference to people in our community.
